Description: Workshop participants will explore ways to responsibly serve LGTBQ+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Transgender, Queer +) clients in an ethical and culturally responsive manner. Beginning with basic education and terminology about LGTBQ+ issues, participants will accelerate learning to discuss historical issues in behavior analysis, the BACB ethics code, and risks impacting LGTBQ+ clients. This is a hands-on, interactive workshop that will use dialogue, collaboration among participants and sample ethical dilemmas to think critically about professional allyship. Participants will leave the workshop with tools and strategies to apply in their practice to create affirming environments. |
Learning Objectives: (1) Develop strategies to create an affirming environment for LGBTQ+ people (2) How to use the ethics code to navigate LGBTQ+ issues in clinical practice (3) Describe the historical relationship between ABA and the LGBTQ+ community |
