Abstract: An increasing number of behavior analysts are consulting within public school settings. This panel discussion will focus on the application of applied behavior analytic (ABA) principles within school settings in the area of academics, behavior, assessment, and instruction within the three tiers of Multi-Tiered Systems of Supports (MTSS). It is imperative for board certified behavior analysts (BCBA) to understand how to work with schools implementing MTSS. Each panelist will incorporate his/her area of expertise to demonstrate practical ways for BCBAs to support the behavioral and academic needs of students, as well as, the instructional and assessment needs of teachers grounded in evidence-based practices of ABA. Framing the application of ABA within the tiered structure of MTSS allows for BCBAs to learn the utility of whole, small group, and individual intervention strategies designed to promote positive outcomes and growth for all students. Panelists will offer guidance for BCBAs new to consulting in schools implementing MTSS in the areas of academic interventions such as direct instruction programs, behavior interventions such as teacher-implemented behavior support plans within a general education setting, using curriculum-based measures and data to drive instructional decision making, and navigating the world of collaboration and consultation with both general and special education school educators.
