Abstract: An important avenue for expanding the breadth and utility of behavior analysis is to increase the number of individuals with behavior analysis training working in the federal government and informing funding priorities which support behavior analytic research methods and applied technologies. One option which can provide pathways for temporary and potentially long-term appointment within federal government agencies for behavior analysts is the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), Science Technology and Policy Fellowship (STPF). AAAS STPF program funds doctoral level academics, at varying career stages, across the physical and social sciences, to work in government from 1-2 years in either an Executive Agency office or with a Member of Congress/Senator. This presentation will provide an overview of the AAAS STPF program and provide specific suggestions for how Association for Behavior Analysis International and behavior analysts interested in public service can take advantage of this and other science advocacy opportunities. |
