ABAI Full Membership Application Checklist

Please use the checklist below to ensure you have all required documentation for the category of Full membership for which you are applying. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.

 

Category 1: Graduate of an ABAI-Accredited Master’s or Doctoral Program


I have a master’s or doctoral degree from an ABAI-accredited graduate program.

 

Please be prepared to provide the following documentation during the online application process for Category 1:

 

Terminal master's or doctorate from ABAI-accredited program

  • Date degree conferred

    □ Degree-conferring institution

Title of master's thesis, doctoral dissertation, or project

150–250-word abstract of thesis, dissertation, or project involving:

  • Experimental analysis of behavior.

    Applied analysis of behavior.

    Conceptual/theoretical/philosophical behavior analytic scholarship.

    Science of behavior analytic practice. ((i.e., systematic evaluation of behavioral interventions)

Minimum 150-word description of research activities

1 or more academic years of supervised research

Research advisor's name, university, and current email address

 

Note: Job experience does not meet the requirement for supervised research experience.

 

Category 2: Graduate of a non-ABAI-Accredited Master’s or Doctoral Program


I have a master’s or doctoral degree from a non-ABAI-accredited graduate program in behavior analysis, psychology, or a related discipline.

 

Please be prepared to provide the following documentation during the online application process for Category 2:

 

Terminal master's or doctorate in behavior analysis or related discipline

  • Date degree conferred

    □ Degree-conferring institution

Title of master's thesis, doctoral dissertation, or project

150–250-word abstract of thesis, dissertation, or project involving:

  • Experimental analysis of behavior.

    Applied analysis of behavior.

    Conceptual/theoretical/philosophical behavior analytic scholarship.

    Science of behavior analytic practice.

List of 18 semester credit hours (or quarter-system equivalent) of coursework in behavior analysis prepared in a file for upload. Indicate university or universities where courses were taken.

Minimum 150-word description of research activities

1 or more academic years of supervised research

Research advisor's name, university, and current email address

 

Note: Job experience does not meet the requirement for supervised research experience.

 

Category 3: Significant Contributions to Behavior Analysis


I do not meet the requirements for Categories 1 or 2; however, I have made significant contributions to knowledge in behavior analysis as evidenced by research publications or any other means as may be determined by the ABAI Membership Board.

 

AREA A—SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTIONS TO BEHAVIOR ANALYTIC RESEARCH

 

Please be prepared to provide the following documentation during the online application process for Category 3 (Area A):

 

Post-master’s or post-doctoral research culminating in substantive, peer-reviewed, scientific publications in one or more of the following areas:

  • Basic or applied analysis of behavior.

    Conceptual/philosophical/theoretical behavior analytic scholarship.

    Science of behavior analytic practice.

Vitae or reference list in English of behavior analytic publications.

PDF of two published papers to which you were a significant contributor

Names and contact information of two ABAI Full members who can comment on your contributions to behavior analysis.

AREA B—SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTIONS TO BEHAVIOR ANALYTIC PRACTICE: 5 YEARS BEHAVIOR ANALYTIC PRACTICE POST-LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION

 

Please be prepared to provide the following documentation during the online application process for Category 3 (Area B):

 

Licensing or certifying body

Date of license or certification

Minimum of five years post-licensure or post-certification of behavior analytic practice, documented by the following:

  • Brief description of your practice, its sustained nature, and evidence of empirical basis.

    Two case reports (personal information redacted) describing behavior analytic programs implemented, goals achieved, and behavior data (numerical or graphic) showing behavior change.

Information about behavioral courses completed during or after degree program; please include:

  • Course title

  • SCH

  • Institution

  • Date

Names and contact information of two ABAI Full members who can comment on your contributions to behavior analysis.

  • Please include phone, email, and mailing address.

 

Note: Job experience does not meet the requirement for supervised research experience.
