This conversation will be a follow-up to the talk entitled “Using Contingency Management and Behavioral Economics to Study Health-Related Behavior.” Topics for discussion include health promotion, conducting research in or developing treatments for substance use disorder, sedentary behavior, eating, or other health-related behavior.

Join Dr. Roma following his morning presentation, "Onward and Upward: Behavioral Science Principles and Practice in Human Space Exploration." Discussion topics to include:

• How behavior analysis can contribute to the science of social behavior
• The role of psychology and behavioral science in multidisciplinary research
• Career development, opportunities, and non-traditional paths for behavioral scientists

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a behaviorally defined disorder. We are learning that ASD is associated with many medical co-occurring conditions such as sleep problems, gastrointestinal disorders, seizures, allergies and anxiety, just to name a few. In addition, we are learning that there are underlying biological abnormalities with how the cells and body work. These medical and biological abnormalities may not only be related to ASD symptoms but, most importantly, may be impeding successful habilitation if they are not addressed. Thus, a multidisciplinary medical approach is necessary to evaluate and treat ASD in order to provide optimal outcomes. Stop by this discussion event to talk about these issues more with Dr. Richard Frye.

• ethnic disparities among children with autism spectrum and neurodevelopmental disorders
• evidence-based parent-mediated interventions for children with developmental delays in underserved populations
• how to reduce the gap in access to services that identify and treat neurodevelopmental disorders to improve the quality of life of underserved populations
  • main barriers to access care for people with autism
  • how culture impacts the access to care in people with autism
  • how being of ethnic minority groups might be a risk factor for later age of diagnosis and less access to care in autistic people
