Airlines

All major airlines offer connections to Oslo through various European cities including, but not limited to, Copenhagen, London, Berlin, Amsterdam, Paris, Frankfurt, Stockholm, Brussels, Vienna, and Prague. These are all subject to change based on the airline. Continental Airlines offers the only direct flight from the US to Norway from New York.

The Oslo Pass

The tourist bureau in Oslo, Visit Oslo, offers a convenient and inexpensive way to see many attractions during a visit to the city. The Oslo Pass is available for one to three days and provides free public transportation, admission to a number of attractions, and other benefits including reduced car rental, ice skate rental, and free parking. Prices start at around $40 (USD).

Transportation in Oslo

Transportation throughout Oslo is easy with the use of the Metro system, or T-Bane. This underground system has five lines and is included free with the purchase of the Olso Pass. For those who do not purchase an Oslo Pass, the charge is very reasonable. From anywhere in Oslo, you can dial 177 for public transportation information. There are also a number of tram lines and busses in the city. Taxis are available throughout Oslo, though they are relatively expensive.

It can also be accessed from the train at the National Theater train station. The phone number is +47 22 44 85 50. The Canadian embassy in Oslo is located on the fourth floor of Wergelandsveien 7.

Currency

The Norwegian Krone (NOK, plural Kroner) is the currency in Norway. The symbol for NOK can also be written NKr. The Norwegian Krone is divided into 100 ore. $1.00 (USD) can be exchanged for approximately 5 Norwegian Kroner, last updated on March 6, 2008 by the International Monetary Fund. Electricity

Norway uses 230V 50HzHz of electricity and a European plug with two circular metal pins. Some travelers may need a transformer.

Weather

The month of August in Oslo is one of the best months for visiting. During the end of the summer season, average temperatures are still near 20°C (or 68°F). Average rainfall for the month of August is close to 90 mm, and there is a good amount of sunshine throughout the day.
