The Behavior Analyst (ISSN # 0738-6729) is the official publication of the Association for Behavior Analysis International. It is published twice annually, and in addition to its articles on theoretical, experimental, and applied topics in behavior analysis, this journal also includes literary reviews, re-interpretations of published data, and articles on behaviorism as a philosophy.
The Behavior Analyst was first published in 1978 by the Midwestern Association of Behavior Analysis. The Journal Committee co-chairs for volumes 1 and 2 were Judith LeBlanc and W. Scott Wood. The Behavior Analyst became the official journal of the Society for the Advancement of Behavior Analysis with its third volume, and Julie Vargas was the first named editor of the journal, serving from 1979-1981.
Subsequent editors included James Johnston (1982-1984); Edward K. Morris (1985-1987); Sigrid S. Glenn (1988-1989); Samuel Deitz (1990-1991); Jay Moore (1992-1993); and Margaret Vaughan (1994-1995). The Association for Behavior Analysis International took over publication of the journal in 1995 and editors following that transition were Daniel Bernstein (1996-1998), Philip Chase (1999-2001), Carol Pilgrim (2001-2004), Marc Branch (2004-2007), Michael Dougher (2007-2010), and Henry D. Schlinger, Jr. (2010-2013).
