Book Proposal Guidelines
The submitted proposal is the basis on which we determine the book’s suitability for publication as part of the ABAI book series. Please ensure that your proposal is organized as outlined below to ensure that all necessary information is available. This will prevent delays due to missing or incomplete information.
Please note:
- We request that ABAI has sole consideration of your proposed book. If you have submitted this book to any other publisher, please let us know.
- Proposals are generally three to six pages long, but they can be supplemented by other documents as described below. Please indicate in your proposal whether you have completed a draft manuscript, but do not send an unsolicited draft manuscript as your initial correspondence.

Author Background
Please attach a CV for each author/editor.
Content Synopsis
- Proposed Title. Titles should describe the content concisely. Avoid catchy or misleading titles that readers will not find when searching online. Main keywords should be used in title creation, and authors should note that most search results only display 50 characters.
- Subtitle (if applicable)
- Description of the book. Ensure you keep your target audience in mind: what are the main topics? Why are they important and/or relevant? What problem are you solving?
- List of chapter headings
- An abstract of each chapter to summarize the content. This should not just be a list of topics covered in each chapter. Key references are useful.
- A sample chapter, if available.
- A set of keywords for searchability
- Estimated number of pages in the book
- Will the book include tables, diagrams, and/or illustrations?

Book Rationale and Readership
- Why do you think there is a need for this book?
- How long will the book remain up to date?
- What is the primary/intended market or readership? For example: Professional/Practitioner, Research, Graduate, etc.
- If applicable, please provide a brief outline of your book’s current context. This should provide the how and why of any recent changes that make your book more relevant today.
Competition
- What competing titles are there? Please include author, title, and publisher.
- What are the unique selling points? Please provide three to five short (one sentence) bullet points describing how your book is unique and interesting.
- If there is not any competition, what is the intended audience currently reading and how does your proposal differ? Which texts would you anticipate seeing your books alongside?
Peer review
Please provide the names and contact information of three individuals whom we could reach out to, in confidence, to review this proposal. Please do not provide information for any individual who is likely to contribute to your proposed book or who teaches at the same institution as yourself.
