Description:
A new world of opportunities is opening up for behavior analysts. Neuroscientific measurement tools have reached a degree of spatial and temporal resolution that, when in the hands of experienced behavior analysts, may allow a revolutionary expansion of repertoires due to the inclusion of new receptor and effector systems. At this point in history, behavior analysts are in an ideal position to inform biomedical engineers on how to analyze neural responses within the framework of the Three-Term Contingency. Here I provide a tutorial on fundamental neuroscientific concepts from a behavior-analytic perspective, focusing on the pragmatic contributions that our practitioners can provide to neuroscience.
Instruction Level: Intermediate
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the presentation, participants will be able to: (1) describe at least three neuroscientific measurement tools; (2) provide an example of a biomedical decision informed by behavior analytic principles; (3) identify brain areas mostly involved in antecedents, responses, and consequences.
