Hyatt Regency Denver Hotel Safety Procedures

Incidents/Non-Emergencies

Upon check in, the hotel provides each guest with a contact number to directly report issues or incidents of safety (720-594-6642). The Hyatt maintains 24-hour staffing for this line, with prompt response. The number can be dialed or texted. The hotel also noted that issues that happen outside of the hotel, in between the hotel and convention center, can be reported as they can help facilitate local supports from fire or police (of course the number does not replace 911 for serious emergencies, or 55 when dialing via a room/house phone).

Other

The Hyatt Regency Denver hotel has capacities posted in each room and suite, please adhere to them, and proactively communicate with Hyatt staff should you need to confirm capacities. The hotel also communicates their "quiet hours" to guests. In the event of a noise complaint, the hotel security will advise the guest that a noise complaint has been called, with a request to keep noise to a minimum. ABAI will also be notified of such complaints. In the event of a second noise complaint (in the same room), hotel security will again respond and request the noise is kept to a minimum. If there is a third noise complaint, Hyatt Regency Denver security will communicate with ABAI staff, and then request that all non-registered guests leave the room and close the event.

Report Incidents of Harassment to ABAI

ABAI staff have protocols in place to support members. In the event a member feels unsafe, experienced harassment or other incident, locate an ABAI staff member in a red shirt (or go to the ABAI registration desk in the Colorado Convention Center). ABAI has a policy on sexual and other harassment, a communications policy, and a form for constituents to report such incidents via the website and ABAI events app. We also want to draw attention to our other supports and resources for inclusivity and accessibility at our events. See this section of our website (other pages are available via the left-hand navigation menu). >>

  • In case of emergency, call CCC security by dialing 200 from any beige house phone (placards above all phones include this number) or 303-228-8030 rather than 911. The CCC covers a very large area, and the security department has protocols with the Denver 911 service.

  • There is a Denver Fire Department station 100 feet behind the CCC.
  • The security department has fire response protocols in place with the fire department and 911 dispatch.
  • Upon verification of a fire, area or building evacuation will take place using strobe light and tone alarms throughout the building, pre-recorded and live notifications, and assistance from security and building staff.
  • Upon authorization from the fire department, security staff will make announcements via the public-address system and bullhorns.

Suspected Active Shooter

If an active shooter is in the building, an alert will be broadcast over the public-address system.

  • Evacuation—Get out of the building/area even if others won’t follow. Help others escape, if possible. Take an evacuation path away from the suspect. Warn others as you escape. Do not attempt to move wounded people. Do not rush toward officers, keep your hands visible at all times, and follow all of their commands. Update police with the suspect’s description and location.
  • Lockdown—Do not leave your current location if you feel the suspect will see or find you. If you can, gather those around you and go to the nearest room with a locking door. Once inside, lock the door and barricade it with heavy objects. Try to prevent being seen. Turn off lights and close drapes or blinds. Sit or lie on the floor next to the wall with the door and be as quiet as possible. Silence your cell phone. Do not answer or open the door for anyone. If you are found and unable to get away, throw objects, yell, and continue to defend yourself.

Suspicious Items

  • Do not touch a suspicious-seeming item.
  • Immediately report the item—dial 200 from any beige house phone (placards above all phones include this number) or 303-228-8030.
