The Autism SIG, chartered by the Association for Behavior Analysis International, brings together individuals who specialize in or have an interest in the application of behavior analysis to the education and treatment of those with autism across the lifespan. The Autism SIG has three primary purposes:

  1. To support consumers of applied behavior analysis services.
  2. To advocate for and promote high standards in the application of behavior analytic treatments.
  3. To disseminate information about behavior analytic research and to foster the exchange of scientific information in the area of autism treatment.

Description of Membership

Our diverse membership includes academicians, researchers, administrators, practitioners from a variety of disciplines, parents, and other consumers. We welcome new members who share our interest in applied behavior analysis and autism treatment.

Annual or Recurring Events

The Autism SIG sponsors several events and publishes a variety of resources for practitioners, researchers, and consumers of ABA. The Autism SIG organizes events at the Annual Convention of the Association for Behavior Analysis International and conducts an annual student research contest for graduate and undergraduate students presenting their research at the convention.

The Autism SIG co-publishes a quarterly newsletter with the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies Autism SIG. This newsletter focuses on a variety of topics within the autism field and includes research summaries, program descriptions, and article synopses. Recent topics have included community integration, challenging behaviors, and meeting the needs of underserved populations.

Specifically of Interest to Behavior Analysts

The study and treatment of autism are rapidly growing fields, and ABA is the treatment of choice for individuals with autism. The Autism SIG provides state-of-the-art information about research and clinical methods for working with individuals with autism spectrum disorders.
