Abstract: This presentation will provide basic information about sleep that can be used by behavior analysts to understand common causes of sleep disturbances in your clients and practical behavioral strategies to help address these disturbances.

Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of this presentation: 1) Participants will understand the basics of normal sleep. 2) Participants will be able to describe the characteristics and causes of common sleep disturbances. 3) Participants will be acquainted with evidence-based behavioral strategies used to improve sleep.

Biography: Dr. Susan McCurry is a practicing clinical psychologist and Research Professor Emeritus at the University of Washington School of Nursing. Her ongoing research includes assessment and treatment of sleep disturbances in older adults, development and evaluation of training programs for family and professional staff caring for persons with cognitive impairment, and examination of the environmental, behavioral, and psychosocial factors associated with successful cognitive aging.
