Association for Behavior Analysis International

The Association for Behavior Analysis International® (ABAI) is a nonprofit membership organization with the mission to contribute to the well-being of society by developing, enhancing, and supporting the growth and vitality of the science of behavior analysis through research, education, and practice.

CPT Codes

ABAI and other stakeholder organizations have compiled some materials to help providers prepare for the code revisions published by the American Medical Association (AMA) that went into effect January 1, 2019, as well as some information to supplement AMA documents. There is also a sample letter to payers describing the changes.

CPT codes provide recognition from the AMA that applied behavior analysis (ABA) is an empirically supported and medically necessary intervention. For the past several years ABAI has been working with the AMA, with the help and support of Drs. Travis Thompson and Wayne Fisher, to establish new billing procedures for ABA and related services for people with autism and other behavior-related conditions.
