Dr. Howard Rachlin is Distinguished Research Professor at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. He has contributed substantially to many varied areas of research including behavioral economics and self control, and his superb empirical and theoretical scholarly research is well known in psychology generally. He is the author of six books, including The Science of Self-Control; Judgment, Decision, and Choice: A Cognitive/Behavioral Synthesis; and Behavior and Mind: The Roots of Modern Psychology. He is a Fellow of the American Psychological Society and of the Society of Experimental Psychologists; has received a MERIT Award from the National Institutes of Health; was an invited speaker at the Nobel Symposium on Behavioral and Experimental Economics, Stockholm, Sweden, in 2001; and received the Award for Impact of Science on Application from the Society for the Advancement of Behavior Analysis in 2005. He has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed papers, two of which have been identified as "Citation Classics" in Current Contents. Two of his Behavioral and Brain Sciences articles and three of his Psychological Review papers have been cited more than 100 times apiece, as have several Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior papers, including one that has been cited more than 300 times. Dr. Rachlin is, in short, one of the most outstanding, creative, original, and influential scientists at work today.
