Alec Bernstein is a doctoral-level Board Certified Behavior Analyst and Senior Behavior Analyst at Children’s Mercy Kansas City Hospital. He formalized and oversees the Behavior Consultation Team, directs the Behavioral Pediatrics Research Laboratory, and is the content expert for the hospital’s expansion of behavior-analytic services. His work mostly addresses severe behavior, equitable healthcare, and workplace safety. Dr. Bernstein also has a faculty appointment through the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine.

 

He was a 2023 Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Faculty Scholar through the School of Medicine and the 2022 Clinical Care Team Award recipient through the hospital’s Department of Pediatrics. Dr. Bernstein serves on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, on the Practice Board of the Association for Behavior Analysis International, and as a Subject Matter Expert for the Behavior Analyst Certification Board. He also serves on the Behavioral Health Committee for the Kansas Hospital Association.

 

Dr. Bernstein completed his master’s in Applied Developmental Psychology at George Mason University and his doctorate in Behavioral Psychology at the University of Kansas. He completed two postdoctoral fellowships—one in clinical and translational research, one in severe behavior—at the Marcus Autism Center and Emory University School of Medicine.
