William M. Baum

William M. Baum

William M. Baum is currently at the University of California, Davis, and is Emeritus Professor at the University of New Hampshire. He has been Associate Editor of Learning & Motivation, and is currently Associate Editor of JEAB. He has been on the JEAB Board of Editors for a total of 15 years. He is a Director of SEAB. His book “Understanding behaviorism: Science, Behavior and Culture” was first published in 1994, with an extensively revised second edition in 2004. He is well known for his writing in 2 areas: (1), the empirical and theoretical analysis of choice behavior. He is the author of two of the most-cited papers (1969 with Rachlin, and 1974) in this area in which he takes a quantitative and biological approach; and (2), for his more general philosophical works on behaviorism, again taking a biological/evolutionary approach. He is a consistent contributor to ABA conventions and has published 64 quality papers.
