In Home Early Intervention Services

The Coyne Infant-Toddler Program is an early intervention program for children younger than three years of age who are “at risk” for having autism or another developmental disability. It is considered an “Early Start” program funded by Regional Center. Once a child is referred to the program, a complete developmental evaluation is completed. Goals and objectives are developed and made a part of the child’s IFSP. Areas covered include: attention, imitation, matching, language development, self-help skills, cognitive skills, social skills, and small and gross motor skills. A program of instruction is designed and implemented in the home. Parent training is an integral part of the program. A common initial level of service is twelve hours of one-on-one intervention with two hours of supervision each week. Gradually the number of hours of intervention are increased. The amount and type of service is determined by the child’s needs.

Our Early Childhood Interventionists have a B.A. in psychology, education, or a related field, or a minimum of one year of training/experience in applied behavior analysis. Our supervisors have a B.A., M.A. or Ph.D. in psychology, education, or a related field. All staff are trained in a variety of teaching techniques based on applied behavior analysis. This includes discrete trial teaching, pivotal response training, errorless learning, picture exchange communication systems, activity schedules, and so on. Our staff can accompany the parents to a “2 year 9 month” meeting in preparation for the child’s transition to public school. We can also attend the child’s first IEP meeting. Progress reports are provided every four months. Before the child completes the program, another developmental evaluation is provided. The report can be forwarded to the child’s local school district to assist in the development of the child’s IEP.

Services Offered to School Districts

Coyne & Associates also offers comprehensive in-school services to assist families and school-district personnel to develop and support individual program goals. Services include:

Play and Language Skills (PALS)

Coyne & Associates, Inc. offers a social skills play group for children with autism. The program is designed for children two to five years old. It is a small group setting with four to six children per group. Teaching occurs at a preschool with typically developing peers.

The children engage in social play with their peers. They learn to follow instructions in a small group. They learn and practice imaginative play schemes. Activities are deigned to promote cooperative play and to develop language skills. For more information visit our website: coyneandassociates.com.
