Getting Involved as an ABA Student Member

The student committee holds a business meeting each year at the ABA convention (as listed in the program). We strongly encourage student members to attend the business meeting to provide feedback and suggest future directions.

In addition, student members are encouraged to participate in the nomination and election process for Student Representatives to the ABA Executive Council. Student members will receive a form in the mail to nominate a candidate to run for Student Representative (the form is usually sent in October).

In order to run for Student Representative, a student must have at least two years left in graduate school (in addition to the year in which the election takes place). Students who receive the highest number of nominations and who meet eligibility requirements are placed on the ballot to run for office. In the spring, student members will receive ballots and be asked to vote for one of the candidates. As the Student Representative to Council votes on behalf of the student members on issues before the Council, it is crucial that student members participate in the election process. Student members may also contact any of the three Student Representatives with questions, comments, and suggestions.

There are several ways to become more actively involved in ABA Student Committee activities. The links below provide information on eligibility and activities for each.
