Mission/Objectives
The Positive Behavior Support Special Interest Group (PBS SIG) is dedicated to promoting research-based strategies that combine applied behavior analysis and biomedical science with person-centered values and systems change to increase quality of life and decrease problem behaviors. The overall goal of the PBS SIG is to promote the use of positive behavior support interventions in schools, communities, agencies, and homes, and to support practitioners in their use.
Description of Membership
ABAI members interested in positive behavior support, mainly school practioners.
Annual or Recurring Events
The SIG holds a business meeting at ABA International's annual convention.
Specifically of Interest to Behavior Analysts
The federal government and many states require the use of positive behavior support practices for consumers and students. Positive behavior support has been developed based on applied behavior analysis principles and practices. This area is particularly important to ensure the linkage between ABAI and the Association for Positive Behavior Support (APBS) as well as current practices in the field.
