Mission/Objectives

The objectives of the SIG are to promote and to disseminate positive behavior support within ABA International. Specifically, the SIG hopes to increase the number and visibility of PBS presentations at ABA International's annual convention; to disseminate accurate information about PBS to ABA International’s membership; to promote methodologically sound, data-based PBS research; and to encourage open dialogue among behavior analysts and proponents of PBS.

Description of Membership

The SIG’s membership represents a broad spectrum of interests within positive behavior support and behavior analysis. Members are working in educational, clinical, research, higher education, and other settings. Professional activities of members include development of individual and systems level behavior interventions, research in applications of behavior analysis and positive behavior support, field-based training, college and university teaching, and administration. Anyone who is interested in behavior analysis or positive behavior support is welcome to join the SIG.

Recurring Annual Events

The SIG holds a business meeting at ABA International's annual convention. Other events may be scheduled in the future.

Publications/Newsletters

The SIG publishes periodic newsletters about the SIG, positive behavior support, upcoming events, and other information.

Specifically of Interest to Behavior Analysts

Behavior analysts who are interested in positive behavior support are welcome to join the SIG. Future SIG activities of interest to behavior analysts include sponsorship of positive behavior support presentations at ABA Internationals annual convention and publication of a PBS SIG newsletter. We also encourage behavior analysts who have heard of positive behavior support and want to learn more about it to attend our annual meeting, and to join to e-mail Bob Putnam at bputnam@mayinstitute.org.
