Mission/Objectives
The Parent-Professional Partnership Special Interest Group (PPP SIG) is now in its 10th year and was originally developed to help address the needs of the growing numbers of parents within the ABA community. The PPP SIG is quite different than other SIGs within ABAI. Aside from educating parents about behavior analysis, our SIG's other primary initiative is helping parent attendees get the most out of ABAI and its conferences. The PPP SIG provides information, networking and resources for these parents. Although the bulk of our efforts center around autism spectrum disorders, parents of children with other disorders and disabilities may be interested in our SIG's activities or our website.
Description of Membership
The PPP SIG is comprised of both parents and other family members, as well as professionals interested in parent-professional collaboration.
Annual or Recurring Events
We hold an annual business meeting, host a parent orientation session, and participate in the ABAI Expo.
Newsletters/Publications
Most of our members are also members of the Autism SIG and have signed on to receive the quarterly Autism SIG newsletter. The PPP SIG does not have any immediate plans to offer a newsletter.
Specifically of Interest to Behavior Analysts
Behavior analysts working with individuals with special needs have long recognized the significance and utility of parent-professional collaboration. Furthermore, the PPP SIG appreciates the powerful role that parents have played in making ABA both more visible and more accessible.
