- To contribute individually and as a collective group to the advancement of Direct Instruction training, practice, and research.
- To provide training and support, through ABAI, for Direct Instruction practitioners.
Description of Membership
Members of the Direct Instruction SIG are researchers and practitioners who have an interest in Direct Instruction. Membership is open to anyone interested in promoting research-validated instructional practices through Direct Instruction. Interested persons are encouraged to become involved. Please contact one of the SIG chair persons for more information about membership.
Annual or Recurring Events
The Direct Instruction SIG holds a business meeting each year during the annual ABA convention. The SIG intends to add a follow-up meeting at the ABAI Education Conference and to offer recurring training opportunities for both advanced and beginning level DI practitioners.
Specifically of Interest to Behavior Analysts
Engelmann and Carnine (1982) argue that the analysis of behavior is key to understanding empirically based principles about how the environment, including communications and knowledge systems, influences the behavior of different categories of learners. Understanding the principles of instructional design articulated by Engelmann and Carnine may improve our understanding of stimulus control, educational programming, and teaching.
