Mission Statement
Counseling is traditionally a field focused on working with normal people with problems. Coaching is a field identified as working with people who desire to reach a specific goal. Behaviorism has had considerable influence in both areas (Cautilli, 2006). This special interest group exists to preserve and extend that legacy.
Description of Membership
This special interest group is open to all behavior analysts, counselors, and coaches who are interested in their common work and the future of behaviorism in said common work.
Annual or Recurring Events
The special interest group will forge greater alliances with counseling organizations such as the American Counseling Association to facilitate communication between the two areas. The special interest group also sponsors a listserv on Yahoo. Currently the listserv has 48 members.
Specifically of Interest to Behavior Analysts
Behaviorism has had a strong impact on the field of counseling.
