TAVB Guidelines for Submissions
Submissions Guidelines
The Editorial Board of TAVB encourages electronic manuscript submissions. Submit one electronic copy in Word format, including figures and tables, to the editor Dr. Anna I. Pétursdóttir. In your email to the editor, please include the following information:
- A request for review and possible publication of the manuscript.
- A statement indicating that the manuscript has not been previously published and has not been or will not be submitted elsewhere during the review process.
- A classification of the article into “Research Report”, “Brief Report”, "Conceptual/Review Article” or “Book Review” (see Types of Articles, below).
- A suggestion of up to three possible reviewers for the manuscript, although selection of reviewers is up to the discretion of the Editor/Associate Editor.
- The corresponding author's business address, email address, and telephone number.
- Authors who would like to have their submissions considered via masked review should inform the editor and then follow the necessary preparation requirements. Instructions for preparation of manuscripts for masked review appear in the APA Publication Manual.
- Note that the Association for Behavior Analysis International requires that authors reveal, in writing and for publication with their published article, any possible conflict of interest in the conduct and reporting of research, e.g., personal financial interests in research outcomes, sources of outside funding in which funders have a stake in outcomes.
- If you do not receive an email confirming the receipt of your submission within 5 business days, please contact the editor again via email or telephone (see below).
Manuscripts must be prepared according to APA format: Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (6th ed.)
Types of Articles
Research Articles
Empirical studies relevant to a behavioral analysis of verbal behavior using either single-case or group designs may be submitted as research articles. Studies based on clinical interventions will be considered under this category if high levels of experimental control have been achieved (otherwise see “Brief Reports”).
Brief Reports
Innovative pilot work and case/clinical studies relevant to the application of behavior analysis to language acquisition should be submitted as brief reports. Brief reports require less detailed descriptions of background, methodology, or findings than research articles and must not exceed 200 typed lines excluding abstract, references, table(s) and/or figure(s). Brief conceptual and didactic papers, as well as responses to previously published manuscripts may be considered under this category.
Conceptual/Review Articles
Manuscripts surveying, summarizing or evaluating particular areas of research in Verbal Behavior may be accepted as Conceptual/Review articles.
Book Reviews
Anyone wishing to prepare a short review of a particular book should write to the editor in advance indicating the book title and why he or she would be a particularly qualified reviewer. Reviews will be judged by the editor in conjunction with one associate editor.
