Philip N. Hineline

Dr. Philip Hineline has been a professor of psychology at Temple University since 1969. He received the Distinguished Service to Behavior Analysis Award from ABAI in 1994 and the Outstanding Basic Research Award from Division 25 of the American Psychological Association (APA) in 2002. He is a Fellow of both APA and the American Psychological Society and has been president of the Society for the Experimental Analysis of Behavior (SEAB) twice, is on the board of the Cambridge Center for Behavioral Studies, has been a board member of SEAB three times, and has been president of Division 25 of APA. He is the author of 44 peer-reviewed papers and many commentaries and reviews, and has been editor, review editor, and associate editor of the Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior. Dr. Hineline has made major contributions to behavior analysis in several empirical and theoretical domains, most notably through his work on aversive control and on molar/molecular distinctions, his analysis of the verbal behavior of behavior analysts, his study of choice and foraging, and more recently his analyses of behavioral teaching arrangements. Dr. Hineline is widely regarded as one of our foremost authorities in the experimental and conceptual analysis of behavior.
