Science and Funding Resources

ABAI's commitment to supporting behavior analysis science and research is central to the Association’s strategic planning and mission. The Science Board advocates for and facilitates research efforts in the field. To this end, ABAI is a member of the Federation of Associations in Behavioral & Brain Sciences (FABBS), and provides a liaison to the Federation's board. FABBS is an organization devoted to science advocacy and education, composed of coalition of scientific societies who share a common interest in advancing behavioral sciences. ABAI is also a member organization of the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC), which provides accreditation and assessment programs for animal research facilities that directly affect university programs in behavior analysis.

Office for Laboratory Animal Welfare Action Alert

The Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals (8th Edition) has recently been published. The guide serves an important regulatory and policy function in animal research, endorsed by the Office for Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW) of NIH, which sets the agenda for most of the Institutional Care and Use Committees (IACUCs) that govern animal research in the United States. The ABAI Science Board Task Force on Animal Research has issued a statement concerning the guide that includes information on how to provide input to NIH/OLAW on whether to adopt the new guide as policy governing federally funded research.

Grassroots Advocacy for Science

You may have heard about the drastic cuts to federal research funding proposed by some members of congress. Such cuts threaten scientific advances and science education. Speaking out on such issues has never been easier than it is now. ABAI has joined forces with FABBS to provide science policy updates and action alerts. FABBS has recently developed an efficient way for scientists to stay abreast of important science policy issues and to take action. Simply go to the to the FABBS web page.

With a few quick mouse clicks you can sign up for policy updates and, if desired, send a letter to your elected officials. This is a quick and effective way to make your opinions known on important policy issues affecting science and society. ABAI is proud to be working with other like-minded organizations to promote science, and we encourage you to get involved.
