Icelandic ABA (ICEABA)
by Atli Magnússon
The Icelandic Association for Behavior Analysis (ICEABA) was founded August 15, 2004. ICEABA is a forum for people interested in the growth and development of behavior analysis in Iceland. ICEABA’s goals are to disseminate and promote behavior analysis, support behavior analytic research, communicate with and support students interested in the field, correspond with behavior analytic associations around the world, and to support the establishment of a union of behavior analysts. Currently ICEABA has 36 members, consisting of students, teachers, social facilitators, psychologists, parents, and behavior analysts. ICEABA’s Web site, www.atferli.is, was launched on May 10, 2006. No annual events have been planned yet as ICEABA is rather young, but we hope to be able to put some events together in the future. Behavior analysts interested in visiting Iceland to present or have a workshop are encouraged to contact ICEABA (atli.magnusson@greining.is).
This past year has been very productive for ICEABA. In June we were honored to host Shahla Ala’i-Rosales, Ph.D., BCBA and Jesus Rosales-Ruiz, Ph.D. During their visit they gave presentations and held a workshop for professionals and parents on their outstanding Family Connections Project. Both the workshop and the talks were very well attended. This year ICEABA members have met regularly to discuss ongoing and past research projects. In April, a group of ICABA members held a meeting at the University of Education. The goal was to introduce the work that is done by behavior analysts and promote graduate studies in the field of behavior analysis. And in May we presented our informational poster on ICEABA at the ABAI Expo in Chicago, attended by both old and new friends of ICEABA.
