Sex Therapy and Educational Programming
By Dr. Bobby Newman
Sex therapy and education is an area that has not received much attention within the applied behavior analytic literature. As such, therapists and educators have to constantly “reinvent the wheel” when confronted with clinical issues. When not addressed properly, behavioral deficits and excesses in the area of sexuality have led to the involvement of law enforcement, as well as personal frustration.
The Sex Therapy and Educational Programming Special Interest Group of ABA
is now forming. This group will aim at providing information to professionals
and consumers dealing with issues of sex therapy and sex education. This
will include therapy and education for both developmentally disabled students,
as well as the typically developing. A newsletter will be produced, and
an organizational meeting was held at the May 2007 ABA conference.
