Hawai'ian ABA
By Dr. Kim A. Meyers
The past year has been a year of transition for HABA. A number of members, including past president Kimberly Smalley, have relocated to other states. There are several tasks outstanding that need to be completed in the upcoming year. First, our application for nonprofit status needs to be completed. The initial application has been submitted and we are currently working with the IRS to clarify a couple of matters. Second, new officers need to be elected. Elections were scheduled for April 24. Third, a conference planning group will be selected and charged with selecting a conference date and site. Preliminary plans indicate the conference will occur in late summer and be held in Honolulu, HI. Fourth, we will resume the publication of the HABA Newsletter and have regular updates to the HABA Website.
New projects for the upcoming year include a recruitment drive targeting students at the University of Hawaii, Chaminade University, Hawaii Pacific University, and the University of Hawaii, West Oahu. In addition, we will be initiating and maintaining contacts with state agencies that may utilize behavior analytic services. If time permits, we will also develop a list of Direct Care Providers (e.g., Hawaii Waiver Providers Association) and begin a similar contact process.
