John A. Nevin
John A. Nevin is currently an Emeritus Professor at the University of New Hampshire. Between 1962 and 2005, Tony Nevin has published 57 papers in JEAB, and many elsewhere. He served a term as Editor of JEAB, a term as Associate Editor, and spent many years on the Board of Editors. He has worked in two major areas: First, in understanding conditional discrimination, in which he and his students and collaborators have contributed very extensively both empirically and theoretically, leading to a series of important quantitative models of discrimination. Secondly, he developed momentum theory, which concerns the appropriate measurement of response strength. This theory led to a series of empirical papers in which the theory was applied to a diversity of situations and subjects, including humans. His most recent contribution has brought these two theories together in a single model. His work has been very extensively cited. He edited, with Reynolds, an excellent teaching book entitled “The Study of Behavior”. Tony has been a consistent contributor to ABA and other BA conventions and conferences where he is always accessible and ready and willing to talk, and at which he often speaks about his other life interest, peace. His contributions have been enormous in more ways than can be counted.
