Maryland ABA

The Maryland Association for Behavior Analysis (MABA) continues to be strong. When MABA was originally founded, it consisted primarily of individuals from the State of Maryland. Since its inception, MABA has grown to well over 200 members and has brought together behavior analysts from the Mid-Atlantic region (e.g., Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and New Jersey). Members include individuals from a variety of professional backgrounds (e.g., direct care personnel, students, researchers, faculty, and psychologists), all of whom are interested in the advancement of behavior analysis in this area. Our annual meeting has provided an opportunity for behavior analysts in the region to hear talks from distinguished behavior analysts covering a wide range of topics (applied, basic, and conceptual). We were honored to have William Dube (Eunice Kennedy Shriver Center), John A. “Tony” Nevin (University of New Hampshire), Kenneth Silverman (The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine), Richard Smith (University of North Texas), and David Wacker (University of Iowa) as our distinguished speakers this past year. The annual meeting also provides members within the region an opportunity to present posters on a variety of topics. This year, we had over 35 posters from institutions throughout the Mid-Atlantic area such as Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University; Kennedy Krieger Institute; The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine; Millersville University; University of Maryland, Baltimore County; Bancroft Neurohealth; Ivymount Autism Program; Caldwell College; Westchester Institute for Human Development; and James Madison University. We welcome all posters relevant to behavior analysts and look forward to the continued participation of our MABA members.
At the end of last year's conference, Peter Gerhardt (Organization for Autism Research) stepped down as President Jennifer Crockett (Kennedy Krieger Institute) and has assumed the role of current President. John Borrero (University of Maryland, Baltimore County) was elected President Elect and Carrie Borrero (Kennedy Krieger Institute) joins Peter Girolami (Kennedy Krieger Institute) as Member-at-Large. Finally, Michelle Frank (University of Maryland, Baltimore County) was elected Student Representative. We thank the continued support of the Kennedy Krieger Institute and the other behavior analytic institutions in the Mid-Atlantic area. Furthermore, we are grateful to the student volunteers from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
The 2009 Annual Meeting is scheduled for Friday, December 4 in Baltimore, Maryland. Our speakers for this year's conference are Phil Hineline (Temple University), Jesse Dallery (University of Florida), Tom Critchfield (Illinois State), Tim Vollmer (University of Florida), and Rachel Thompson (New England Center for Children). We anticipate another highly successful meeting. For more information, please go to http://www.marylandaba.org
