Louisiana ABA
By Tiffani Carlin
The LouABA chapter of ABAI was initiated in June of 2008. Since then, we have hosted three professional workshops with Ellen Brocato, BCBA; and Dr. Gordon Bourland, PhD, BCBA; as presenters. Dr. Jon Bailey and Dr. Mary Burch conducted a workshop in June, 2009, on ethics for practicing BCBAs. LouABA also organized a public service training program on the legal rights of parents of children affected by autism and other developmental disorders during April of 2009. This training was conducted by a representative from the Louisiana Advocacy Center and an estate planning attorney. LouABA has recently launched its Web site, www.mcneese.edu/louaba, which is updated monthly. We are currently exploring the possibility of state licensure for the practice of board certified behavior analysts in Louisiana and are working to ensure that our members have the opportunity to participate in law-making policy in the state. We plan to monitor current insurance laws that impact the practice of applied behavior analysis.
