Awards and Contests

The Health, Sport, and Fitness SIG issues a $100 cash award for student research in Health, Sport, or Fitness. Students interested should submit an abstract to the SIG office (mkirkpatrick@wju.edu) prior to the ABA submission deadline. Presentations can be posters or parts of symposia. A statement attesting to student status should be included, along with contact information. The award will be presented during the 2008 ABA conference in Chicago. The Experimental Analysis of Human Behavior SIG sponsors a yearly Student Paper Competition, which is designed to recognize and promote scholarly activity in the experimental analysis of human behavior. Students can visit the SIG Web site for submission information, or contact Manish Vaidya, the coordinator of the event. The deadline for submissions is September 3, 2007.

The Organizational Behavior Management Network SIG provides the Chris Anderson Research Awards to encourage the conduct of high quality research by graduate students in the area of Organizational Behavior Management (OBM). The Rehabilitation and Independent Living SIG offers opportunities for Neurobehavioral Rehabilitation Internships. There is a consortium of facilities offering students summer internships and semester long placements. Any ABA student member who is interested in gaining neurobehavioral experience should contact Dr. Mozzoni for placement opportunities. Undergraduate students have summer and grad students have semester and/or summer clerkship/internship opportunities available, provided that they are in the ABA track.  Preference will be given to students in BACB approved program. Opportunities are national (AR, CO, CA, IL, TX etc.) and requirements vary according to the organization (readings, projects etc.). We are committed to supporting students who are interested in careers working with persons with Acquired Brain Injuries.

The SABA Experimental Analysis of Behavior Fellowship provides a grant for one student per year in a doctoral program in psychology or behavior analysis, in which it is possible to conduct research in the experimental analysis of behavior. For the academic year of 2006-2007 the Fellowship will provide a grant of $2,000. Click here for more information. The submission deadline is September 12, 2007.

The SABA Student Registration Grant provides complimentary registration to student presenters at the Annual ABA Convention or the Autism Conference. Click here for more information.

The Sidney W. and Janet R. Bijou Fellowship Program provides a grant for one student per year in a doctoral program in psychology or education, in which it is possible to conduct research in behavioral child development. For the academic year of 2006-2007 the Fellowship will provide two grants of $5,000. Click here for more information. The submission deadline is September 12, 2007.

Verbal Behavior SIG Student Research Competition – A submitted paper can be a contribution of a conceptual analysis, a study conducted in the area of basic research, or an empirical investigation conducted under an applied framework in the area of verbal behavior. A cash award along with a new issue of The Analysis of Verbal Behavior journal and a plaque will be presented at the VB-SIG meeting at the 2008 conference in Chicago. Contact Judah B.
